Windmill operates on a TEN-MONTH school year calendar starting the in fall.
[What is the minimum age for admittance to kindergarten in California?
A child shall be admitted to a kindergarten maintained by the school district at the beginning of a school year, or at a later time in the same year if the child will have his or her fifth birthday on or before one of the following dates (EC 48000[a]):
For the 2011–12 school year the date is December 2
For the 2012–13 school year the date is November 1
For the 2013–14 school year the date is October 1
For the 2014–15 school year and each school year thereafter the date is September 1.]
Children do not need to be toilet trained to attend Windmill School.
Children will be admitted at the discretion of the school Director and the teaching staff.

The Windmill classrooom opens into a large private playground, allowing childent to move freely between indoor and outdoor play at their own direction. Each day before class, the teachers prepare the indoor and outdoor spaces with multiple activity areas designed to appeal to the immediate interests of the children and also to introduce them to new experiences and ideas.
The indoor environment promotes hands on experiences and exploration with a variety of media such as art materials, dress-up clothing for imaginary play, music, cars, trains, manipulatives and various materials for children to construct their own environments. Children even participate in preparing their own snack!
Our outdoor playground includes areas for art, sensory exploration and tricycle riding, plus large sand areas, a climbing structure and a playhouse for dramatic play.
